Just read John R Johnson's entry dated May 1, 2017. I was a Radio Operator in HQ Company also starting out in McNair and later going to that God awful Camp Eschborn. My time was May 1963 to May 1965. I was trying to find out who the Group was that we were in to look for their logo for my website.
I was a radio operator for HQ Co, 317th from January '60 until August '61 at McNair Kaserne. Just after I was released from the Army, the Berlin Wall was built and I was recalled to active duty for another year because of critical MOS. Among the interesting events that occurred while I was there were the shooting down of U2 and capture of Gary Powers by Russians, and the capture by Israeli Mossad of Adolf Eichmann and his subsequent trial.

Stationed at Camp Eschborn 1984 -1986. A Co. Arrived at Camp Eschborn New Year's Eve in "84 and was shown around downtown Frankfurt during the festivities by a fellow in HHC Co. I had no idea the Europeans celebrated New Years like that! I had a great time and was very gungho, but had to leave the Army early due to family issues at home. Now a big part of me regrets that decision but it still was in family's best interest. I had a good time with nearly everyone. I still remember Hamby (from Georgia) and myself catching the guy who came under the fence while on guard duty and we had to carry empty M-16s at the time. We faked it good! I was (am) a smaller fellow and got assigned the M-60 and later the 5-ton dump truck, but neither without resistance because of my size. We had great leadership to include Fredie Hargraves who I see has left an entry.
