Just read John R Johnson's entry dated May 1, 2017. I was a Radio Operator in HQ Company also starting out in McNair and later going to that God awful Camp Eschborn. My time was May 1963 to May 1965. I was trying to find out who the Group was that we were in to look for their logo for my website.
I was a radio operator for HQ Co, 317th from January '60 until August '61 at McNair Kaserne. Just after I was released from the Army, the Berlin Wall was built and I was recalled to active duty for another year because of critical MOS.
Among the interesting events that occurred while I was there were the shooting down of U2 and capture of Gary Powers by Russians, and the capture by Israeli Mossad of Adolf Eichmann and his subsequent trial.

I was at Camp Eshborn from 1978 to 1980, I was in my initial permanent party in Company A 317 Combat Engineers Battalion and what impressed upon me the most is the how we had each other back, I was treated like family right immediately were "second to None".
