From late 80 to late 83 I was in C, Co as a Sqd. Ldr. for about a week then moved to D, Co an a Plt Sgt. Ended tour as the NCOIC of the Leadership School which I started the school with just the building and three of the best NCO's in the army. From 85 to 87 I was assigned to B, Co. as a Plt. Sgt. and Operation Sgt for about 6 months then took over A, Co as First Sergeant. I must say that Drill Sgt duty and the 23rd Engr. Bn. prepared me to be a good leader in the 317th.

I was stationed at Camp Eschborn from Mar 71 to Apr 72. D Co 62E20 Crawler Tractor operator (Bulldozer). One of the first things I did after arriving at Eschborn was to enroll at the Univ of Maryland in downtown Frankfort??? I met a 1st Lt at class and started riding to classes with him and after a few months he made Capt and became our Co commander. Awesome luck! Anyway he moved me from the motorpool line platoon to the Co HQ Platoon (I think to keep me out of trouble) I was barely 18. Like most of the posts here life in Eschborn/Frankfurt was pretty freakin awesome. I remember my E-3 or 4 pay was $333/mo paid in cash by our Payroll officer Lt Kelly. Pappy Swaitek was the motorpool SSgt with about a hundred years in the army back then. Rob Lingo was in the mess hall; DC Washington bunked near me in the line platoon; Paul Sharp "Sharpo" was a former Hells Angel. We took our VW bus to Schweinfurt to see Grand Funk Railroad on base. Must have been an armor unit; they used tanks spot lights for the concert. Anyway, great to hear from all the brothers in arms and see the old photos that bring back so many great (and not so great) memories.

Served with H&SCo from Jan54 thru April 55 at McNair. Many good memories and some not so good. The winter of 54 was very cold- when it didn't rain,it snowed. A good unit to serve with.
