Obituary

RUSSELL — Henry Christopher “Pete” Petersen, 45, was born on Feb. 25, 1969 in Hoboken, N.J. to the late William and Loretta Petersen and he passed away on Nov. 13, 2014.

Henry graduated from Emerson High School, N.J in 1987 and he graduated from NYRS in 1988 in New York, N.Y. After graduation he entered the U.S. Army and did his basic training in the Company D 4th Battalion 26th Infantry 3D Brigade at Fort Dix, NJ. He graduated as a 611-63Y10 Track Vehicle Mechanic in Aberdeen Proving ground in Maryland in 1989. After AIT, Henry was sent to Darmstadt, Germany (1989-1990) and served there until he was called to duty for the Persian Gulf War in Kuwait, Saudi Arabia. While in Saudi he was an E4-63Y10 Track Vehicle mechanic with the 317th Engineers (1990-1991). After the war he was stationed at Fort Benning, Georgia until his honorable discharge in 1992.

Henry had several friends while he was in the Army but none as close as his Army “Brother” Paul Lopez. After Henry was discharged from the Army his friend asked him to come to Iowa to live and work. While living in Oskaloosa, IA he met Lori Myers-Petersen on July 1, 1993. Two years later on July 1, 1995 they married and made a home in Oskaloosa with several furry babies through the years.

While living in Oskaloosa for 20 years he worked for Goodyear and also Oskaloosa motors As a certified Auto Technician. In 2012, they moved to Russell, IA where Henry worked for East Penn Manufacturing, Corydon until his passing.

Henry loved to build model cars, HO trains and remodeling a Corvette for his father-in-law Charlie. In recent years Henry and Lori have been enjoying their time together remodeling the house they bought in Russell but Henry will be remembered for being a die-hard New York Yankees fan.

He is survived by his wife of 19 years, Lori Myers-Petersen, Russell. His in-laws, Charles and Paulletta Hixenbaugh, Oskaloosa; brother-in-law, Daniel Myers, Cedar Rapids; his sisters, Alice Petersen of Woodbine, N.J. and Loretta (Joe) Fortunato of Dumont, N.J.; his Army brother Paul (Sharon) Lopez and his extended Lopez family, Dan (Drema) and Erwin (Daneta), nieces and nephews, and also a lot of friends that expand a lifetime.

Henry is preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law Scott Myers.

A memorial service for Henry will be held on Saturday, Nov. 29, 2014 at 1 p.m. at Carpenter’s Hall, 1215 Court Ave., Chariton.
